What to do when a client wants to edit your agreement or create their own?

Helpful tips for when a client or legal department wants to customize our agreements.

Step 1: (Try to align and use our standard)

Push for our standard agreement to be signed by the company representative and ask for a more senior or experienced leader, such as a divisional or regional president, to assist you with negotiations.

Step 2. (Try for both, our agreement and theirs)

If you continue to get push back, please bring to the attention of your regional leader and confirm it does not conflict with our standard expectations, move forward with signing it. Ask them to in turn sign ours and we will attach them together for future reference inside of the HubSpot deal record under quote & attachments

Step 3. (Require a basic line item agreement from AL referring to their service agreement)

If you are unable to, submit a request to CRHelp@ApartmentLife.org to have a custom/master agreement that at a minimum gives us the budget line items and information to make the program active, and refers to their agreement which we will keep on file. Their service agreement must still include the unit concession, pricing, termination period of 30-60 days minimum.

Step 4. (Try for a merge of language in their singular service agreement)

If they disagree to sign our agreement altogether, connect with the most senior stakeholders in their organization that you have a positive relationship with and see if there is an opportunity to align our language and process with their service agreement. Their service agreement must still include the unit concession, pricing, termination period of 30-60 days minimum.

Reminder: This agreement must be approved by a divisional president prior to requesting client signatures.
